*does actually know why* See, in the 1800's, the Irish potato famine caused mass immigration. A lot of them either docked at Liverpool, meaning that most of the accents of the North-West of England are still heavily influenced by Irish pronunciation. However, some of them actually survived the trip to America and ended up in the North-East.
