So, according to the Guardian (who I am inclined to trust, despite the fact that at least two of the columnists spent most of last year, and the first three months of this one, implying that Brown/Darling hatesex was in the works), Charles Kennedy voted against tuition fees. This makes me happy.

I have always liked Charles Kennedy. Even before I knew that he was the leader of a political party, since I just thought 'Charles Kennedy? Oh, he's the ginger Scottish bloke from HIGNFY that has massive sexual tension with Paul whenever he shows up' (teenage Lucy, despite not knowing anything about politics, thought that she knew a lot about sexual tension. I have since learned a lot more).

Then the original tuition fee thing came up (the one with Tony Blair being the spawn of Thatcher and Labour doing U-turns before the Lib Dems made it cool?) and, being a high school student at the time, and someone potentially affected by the change in tuition fees without having the right to vote against it, I was unimpressed by these shenanigans. Sincerely so.

I figured that, even if I couldn't vote until 18, I could at least decide in advance which party to vote for. And...it helped that Tony Blair was obviously evil and Michael Howard had less charisma than a dead fish. And that I didn't like the war on Iraq either. This led me to studying politics at college (because there's a difference between reading the news and understanding the context and I wanted to be entirely clear on what I was doing when I voted), then uni and...well, here I am.

So, despite everything (although, traitor to his own party or not, I will shout at my brother every single time he insults Vince Cable and his little dancing shoes), it's nice to know that at least one politician makes the attempt to keep his promises.
