Story Name: Nostalgia
Story Genre: Harry Potter
Story Rating: PG
Warnings: Mild fem-slash, meaning two girls kissing, most definitely AU.
Summary: Two young women have a discussion after the final battle.
A/N: First time I’ve ever done fem-slash seriously before. Didn’t think it’d be a Harry Potter fic, but my HP muse is very demanding.

"You deserved it." The taller woman smirks. She’s grown even more since Hogwarts and, despite still being a well built and tough looking woman, she no longer looks like the girl that Ron teased about her weight.

On this occasion, she’s right. The incident that we are discussing was my fault and she knows that I know that it was. Still, I pretend to be outraged.

"Well, if Malfoy hadn’t been giving us mixed signals from the outset, we wouldn’t have had to resort to those measures!" She laughs, knowing that I’m slightly changing the subject. Once upon a time, she would have beaten me to a soggy pulp because she didn’t have enough self-confidence in her answers to think she had a chance with anything but her fists.

"Yes, but how is that my fault?"
"You should have told me you had a cat!"

In fact her cat, who I later came to know as Ciara, gave Crookshanks a nice healthy litter of bad-tempered but adorable part Kneazle crossbreeds a few years later. But that isn’t the point.

"We hated each other! How was I supposed to do that? Hi, I’m going to put you in a headlock and by the way, I have an adorable cat that you might like?! Plus, you didn’t tell me about the DA, so we’re even." I don’t know how she can make that argument hold water. I really don’t.

"You were part of the Inquisitorial Squad. Why you could ever think that Umbridge was sane, I’ll never know, but I couldn’t possibly tell you about the DA."

She always gets bitter about that point. She once told me that she joined the Inquisitorial Squad because she thought the Ministry had to be right because they needed to be able to protect the public and since Umbridge wasn’t teaching anything practical, she thought that it would be a good chance to practice her skills in casting.

"Well it’s not like I could learn any other way, is it?" I protest at that, she is being too unfair on us with that. The DA weren’t biased!

"We never prevented anyone from attending."

"That’s because none of us would show up because we didn’t want to face the hatred and mistrust from the other houses and our own. Admit it. You and your group were as biased as the rest of us. You wouldn’t have allowed any Slytherin’s in your meetings, even if any had wanted to come. You’d have thought us spies for Malfoy and ostracised us for our house." She smiles, a bit sadly and I know where this is going next. "Just as we ostracised you for your Muggle parents. And this is the really awful thing," Moving closer, she whispers into my ear.

"With Potter’s victory, your exclusion is all but over. Ours is worse now than ever. It’s a vicious circle and it’s never going to be broken." She has always been pessimistic, it’s why she was such a good Auror. She always assessed the risks well. However, here she is being a bit paranoid and defeatist.

"It doesn’t have to be. You and the others that fought alongside us are heroes, examples of what can happen if you give unity a chance."

"Me and the other Slytherin’s? Where are we now? Zabini was murdered brutally, in the middle of the Great Hall, while the other students watched in terror. The first year force that I managed to get on our side while they were still untainted, died during the battle. Or wished they had. And me...I’m..."

The guard at the door starts to move. I’ve overstayed my welcome, I think. We stand up.

"Don’t worry. I have Neville, Susan and Luna working on a way to prove your innocence." She smiles, still sad.

"Thank you." We hug, and she bends her knees so we’re at about the same height. I put my arms around her neck and kiss her, as gently as possible.

"Goodbye, Hermione."
"It isn’t goodbye, Millie, It’s just goodnight."

Someday, I will get her out of there. I promise.
