TITLE: One door shuts, another opens.
AUTHOR:
rushikayu13
FANDOM: Torchwood
CHARACTER/PAIRING/TRIAD: Ianto Jones
GENRE: Gen.
TABLE: Dark
PROMPT: #5 -Leaving
RATING: PG
WORD COUNT: 389 words.
SUMMARY: Ianto meets his new boss. Set between the Doctor Who episode 'Doomsday' and the Torchwood episode 'Everything Changes'.
WARNINGS: Jack Harkness is a warning in himself. :D Seriously, implied canon death.
DISCLAIMER: ...If I owned Torchwood, I wouldn't have ended Season 1 like that. And I certainly wouldn't have left that plot hole in 'Utopia' where Jack's leaving is completely different. So, logic dictates that I don't own Torchwood.
Ianto Jones adjusts his tie.
He's here in Cardiff for an interview with the leader of the mysterious Torchwood Three and he's nervous. Out of the few survivors from the Battle of Canary Wharf, he's the only one that decided to come here. There were a couple of people that wanted to go to Torchwood Two, up in Scotland, but he prefers to be on familiar ground.
He had actually applied to Torchwood Three first and been rejected. Then Torchwood One had extended an invitation to come and work for them instead. If he had a choice to do it again, he probably wouldn't accept it. But back then he was still idealistic and he didn't care that what Hartman was doing was wrong on so many levels.
He just wanted to know what was going on.
Now he wishes that he didn't know.
He opens the door and walks into the building. It's smaller than Torchwood One, but that's only to be expected. Besides, he always hated the fact the Torchwood One was too big and crowded because it meant that he would have to work harder to clean up everything when it all went haywire.
And it did all go haywire. Even though it meant losing -well, sort of- Lisa, he's glad that he left London. For all of Torchwood Three's faults -and he's heard a few rumours about those faults and, in particular, their leader's affiliation with the sinister entity known as 'The Doctor'- they never had Daleks and Cybermen on their doorstep.
He waits in the entrance for ten minutes before someone appears. The newcomer grins at Ianto and introduces himself, holding out a hand for Ianto to shake.
"Hi. You must be Ianto. I'm Captain Jack Harkness, your new boss."
He smiles a little. Even though he's only come here for an interview, there was no question that he would have turned this job down if he had gotten it, and apparently, Jack knew that. He shakes the outstretched hand, suddenly aware of Jack's not-so-subtle wandering eyes.
Great. Less than a week back home and I'm already being employed by a guy with the libido the size of Earth. But he's still an improvement over my old employer and I'm still glad that I left London. At least, I am at the moment, anyway.
