I'm going to get back to writing people's requests soon. But now for something completely different: The start of a miniseries about our favourite misogynist hacker. :D

Story Name: Closure
Story Genre: Battle Royale (manga and movie, respectively)
Story Rating: 12/T/PG-13
Summary: Five ficlets where they lived. Shinji, Hirono, Yukie, Keita, Yutaka and Hiroki get the closure that was denied them.
Pairings: Shinji/Hirono, Shinji/Yukie, Shinji/Keita, Shinji/Yutaka and Shinji/Hiroki implied, in that order.
Chapter: 1 (The Rebels, Shinji/Hirono)
Disclaimer: ...No. This was done out of a longing to write something that I want to write. I don't even own the idea of any of these pairings. Much stolen from V7 and Tallulah and L1 need to be credited for that. Particularly the first fic. Hirono is not the Whore of Babylon -although she wishes she was that good- and Akihiro probably isn't the Anti-Christ, although Shinji is a misogynist hacker jazz fan.

They'd gotten out.

And while Hirono's mad friend drove the car -wouldn't let Haruka drive this time- and his vision was going all weird and foggy from lack of sleep, he could hear Hirono changing the radio station from some weird pop music to the Republic news channel.

"And our headline today, three students from a Program class have escaped, murdering everyone involved. The three, including a known prostitute," Hirono preened a little at that, "the nephew of a deceased dissident and the daughter of the local priest, have allegedly been seen in the company of previous winner Akihiro Nanami. Civilians have been warned not to approach the four, as they are armed and extremely dangerous."

Akihiro turned it off.

"Nice to see we're still the Republic's Most Wanted. I missed the feeling of having an entire country believe that I'm the equivalent of the Anti-Christ. Oh, and I'm travelling with the Whore of Babylon," Hirono started laughing, "her crazy friend," pointing at the now sleeping Haruka, "and a hacker jazz fan with a misogynistic outlook."

"Hey! I...resent tha...remark." He tried to sound insulted, but he was too tired. The last thing he heard was Hirono's chuckle and Akihiro's laughter before he fell asleep.

He woke up in a dark place. There was movement -was he on a ship?- but not very much light. For a split second, he thought that they'd caught him and prepared to shout for help, but a hand flew across his mouth before he could make a noise.

There was a flicker of light, and Hirono's face came into focus. Hissing a warning for him not to make a sound, she took her hand off his mouth and put the lighter away.

"Where are we?" He breathed into her ear.

"We're on a ship heading to China. The ship's going to encounter another ship in a few days, heading towards the American Empire. We'll sneak on board with the rest of the goods they're smuggling and then we're free."

"And what happens when we get to America?"

"Akihiro's got a few tapes to show the news. He speaks enough English to get by. Been planning this for years."

"Who is he?"

"He's Akihiro Nanami. A few years ago, he had a twin sister called Asuka, and was reasonably popular in his class. The class all passed out during a fire drill and when they woke up, they were in an abandoned prison cell wearing odd looking necklaces...and I think you know what happens next."

He could guess.

"Where's Haruka?"

"She's over there. She woke up when we boarded, and then went back to sleep. Can you do me a favour?"

"...Depends. I'm pretty sure I could still finish up our make-out session in the dark. And Kazuhiko's not here to interrupt us this time. How about it?" He waggled his eyebrows at her, but in the dark, she didn't notice. She did notice his tone of voice though, because she sniggered a little, before continuing.

"That's not what I meant. Yet, anyway. Could you take a few hours watch? I haven't slept since before...I ran into Yuichiro...and, even though I might be the Whore of Babylon, it's been a rough couple of days." She yawned and he agreed.

Four days ago, if someone had told Shinji that he would survive a Battle Royale, and end up on a boat out of the Republic with Hirono Shimizu -of all people- fast asleep right next to him, Haruka Tanizawa asleep on the floor somewhere else, and Hirono's crazy Program-winning boyfriend arranging their escape...he'd probably ask them what they were on, for a start.

Still, there were worse ways to end it. They were all alive, and he had somehow managed to stay frosty without much help. Things were really starting to look up.

******************************************************

He stepped out of his house into the sunlight.

He'd almost forgotten the date. Ten years ago yesterday, his best friend had died. Ten years ago tomorrow, they had left the Republic forever.

And ten years ago today, a spiky haired prostitute had been chased by a psycho with a machine gun. Right into a hacker and a priest's daughter. Ten years today, they started to take on the world.

Hirono and Akihiro had stayed together. Never married, of course, because neither of them were really suited to monogamy. She'd had two children, Yukie, aged 9, who she had given birth to two months after they had arrived in America, and Yuichiro, aged 4. She was now a doctor of psychology -Shinji had laughed when she had told him that, because that just hadn't seemed like her- and he was now a forensic scientist, who helped the police with investigations.

Haruka...he wasn't actually sure what Haruka was doing now. After one of their arguments -and they had argued a lot- she had stormed off in tears and never came back. Hirono still kept in sporadic touch with her, but he had the feeling that she was on the other side of the country by now.

And himself...he had decided to try something different. The knowledge that his uncle had given him, and that Akihiro had given Hirono, had saved their lives in the Program, so he felt like he should be generous with it. He passed it on.

Officially, he taught computer studies at the local high school. But he had also taught survival skills to any of his students that wanted to learn. To give them a fighting chance at defending themselves. Because someone had to and no-one else would.
Ten years had gone by. Ten years of pain, and stress. Ten years worth of regrets -not that he'd say anything about those- and, of course, ten years of finishing what he and Hirono had started in the Program.

Without Kazuhiko's interruptions.
